A teaser peak into the mind of Beck, one of the main characters in my work in progress.
I shouldn’t be looking at her like this, Beck thought as he watched Mae cleaning the now empty restaurant.
He pulled back, out of sight. Somewhere in time, as she had become a woman, his feelings had grown to something more, something undeniable.
No, I can’t. It’s not right. She’s John’s kid.
He chanced looking at her again. She was on her hands and knees pulling a fallen white linen napkin from under one of the tables. Beck retreated to the shadows of the hallway.
She’s one in a billion, he thought shaking his head in disbelief. And I’m her silent guardian.
